( Diener, Suh, Lucas, & Smith, 1999 ) definition of happiness has become widely accepted within the scientific community. A variety of biological, psychological and philosophical approaches have striven to define happiness and identify its sources. Subjective happiness is a variable that has garnered increasing interest with the development of positive psychology, the study of the conditions and processes that contribute to the flourishing or optimal functioning of people, groups and institutions ( Gable & Haidt, 2005 Seligman & Csikzentmihalyi, 2000 ).
